To Do:
A. In your workbook read the pages "ages & stages" on growth and development for each of the 10 age groups. You may also want to look up the growth & development section in the “Adult sized guide to Child sized Environments”, or you can find even more additional information on the many websites listed at the class study links.
B. For your first assignment list out what you feel are the top 5 key points for
each of the 10 age groups. List two appropriate activities for each of these 10
age groups. Type your work up on your computer and submit as follows.

A. From your workbook read the Understanding Diversity handout #2-A
and answer the three questions about your personal cultural background. Write a
few thoughtful statements for each one.
B. Next read over the Age-Appropriate scenario handout #2-B and
respond to Jamal's behavior. Write a paragraph explaining what your response
would be if you were talking to Jamal's mother.
C. For additional information please go to the “Class study links” and visit a few websites. There are sections on developmental stages and brain development that can be very interesting & helpful reading.

A. In your workbook read over all the interest area information from section #3-A.
B. Next in the workbook read over the “Help or Hurt” scenario #3-B. Make a help/hurt list of all the good and bad situations you noticed from the scenario.
C. Now read and respond to each of the six children's needs scenarios listed in your workbook #3-C. Write out a short activity plan for each of these six children. Use the information and ideas from your earlier reading.

B. Go to the “Class study links” and visit the many websites
listed. Read over the sections #4-B on brain and language development.
C. Next from your workbook complete #4-C “Using Positive
Communication” change each of the ten statements into a positive format.
D. Next, complete #4-D the “Assessment Scenarios” read the ten assessment statements and explain how you would respond to each one using positive communication statements instead.

A. Review the section on guidance techniques in “An Adult sized
guide to a Child sized Environment”, or look over the websites listed at the
study links page for the information.
B. Next, complete the ten questions on the Guidance Techniques study sheet #5-B. Please type out your answers and submit.
C. In your workbook, fill out and think about the “Behavior in your Classroom”
worksheet #5-C. Read over the positive steps to conflict resolution.
D. Now read and respond to both Bridgette's & Jamie's scenarios. Complete the
questions #5-D. Write your responses to the questions and submit.

To Do:
A. Read the next page in your workbook about Maslow's Hierarchy of
Needs #6-A. As you read understand that everyone must develop through each of
these stages starting from the lowest to the top. If a lower level of needs is
not fully met you cannot advance to the next level up.
B. Read the advise on “Knowing your limits of Expertise” #6-B.
Save this for future reference.
C. Complete the behavior management self-assessment sheet in your
workbook and save it.
D. Read the hand washing information #6-D and write out your
responses to the hand washing fiasco scenario in your workbook. Include a
statement or list as to when hands should have been washed.
E. Read about sanitizing/disinfecting #6-E in your workbook and list out the weak/strong solutions needed for each of the items listed. Use your state licensing guide as a reference. Next, read and respond to the three body fluid scenarios, and the two medication scenarios. Write all of these out and submit.

A. Read over all the food safety and nutrition pages in your
workbook. Also use the "Study Links", the “Adult Sized guide to Child sized Environments” & the
state “Minimum Licensing Requirements” guidebook for further information on this
topic. Complete the food temperature worksheet for a future reference. You may
also want to go to the websites listed at the "study links" for further
nutrition & food safety
information.
B. Next, read and respond to the food handling scenario “Is it OK
to Eat?” #7-B & write up a short response to this scenario.
C. Now plan out a full days menu for the three age groups that are
listed in your workbook #7-C.
D. Read Making Meal Time Meaningful #7-D and complete the “My center's food handling and Meal Time Procedures.” Think about your present child care facility as you fill this out. Can you make any positive changes for meals at your facility? Write a short summary in your workbook.

B. Complete the true/false worksheet on the issues of Abuse from
your workbook. Be sure to skip looking at the answers listed until after you
have answered the T/F sheet. Then go back and read the annotated pages and see
if you were correct on the T/F sheet. Write out a short summary on what you knew
and what you learned from this information. What surprised you?
C. In your workbook read the reporting law and complete the eight
activities on reporting procedures #8-C. Write out your answers.
D. Next, complete the seven exercises on reporting possible abuse #8-D. Write out your answers & Submit your work.

B. Now read Gloria's accident in your workbook. Using all guides
as references complete a sample accident report. Then save these in your
workbook for reference.
C. For your assignment pick out and read one WAC (Washington
Administrative Codes) from the “Minimum Licensing Requirements” and write a
short report on it.
D. Next, list out three new parent communication ideas that you plan to use at your present job site.
E. Set three goals for yourself and develop a short growth plan. Write all this up in a summary and submit your work
