ASSIGNMENT #3:

Resources Needed (download above):

STARS Individual & Cultural Diversity Workbook
To Do:

A. In the STARS workbook please read the next section. The 2 language pages are great resources if you have any non-English speaking children at your center/home. This information is about how the levels of understanding are affected by speech.

B. In your workbook find the assessment test on the 7 types of Intelligence. Go ahead and take the inventory on yourself. Score it at the bottom to see which of the intelligences you are the strongest at. It is very interesting to also find out where the children in your care are strong and weak.

C. Go to the "Study Links" page and find the website on Personality testing and information. Take some time now to complete the test on yourself. Read over your scores & results, and see what NT/SP/SJ/NF are all about.

D. Write two summaries about yourself; first write a short statement about what personality type you tested out to be, and for the second summary explain which areas of intelligence you score highest in. Be sure to add in your thoughts on how this affects your personal view of the world.

E. Look at the Toy/game worksheet in the STARS workbook, this can be given to the parents at your center/home to help raise awareness of diversity.

To submit:

Please complete your short write up for part D on your computer and save as assignment #3.

Be sure to put your class title, STARS ID number & your full name on the assignment.

ASSIGNMENT #4:

Resources Needed (download above):

STARS Individual & Cultural Diversity Workbook
To Do:

A. In the STARS workbook please read the next unit on Teasing. Teasing and bullying are the first steps toward harassment and violence. If children can learn how to deal with these issues, and how it affects others, we can hopefully avoid children developing these behavior patterns. The lessons on the first 2 pages and on the last page can be scaled down to use with very young children.

B. Please write a summary about the types of teasing, bullying, or harassment you see or have seen at your center/home. Explain what was done, or what could be done to improve on this topic.

To submit:

Please complete your short write up for part B on your computer and save as assignment #4.

Be sure to put your class title, STARS ID number & your full name on the assignment.

Please e-mail your assignment to:

diversity@starstab.com

On the e-mail subject line Please put Assignment #4

ASSIGNMENT #5:

Resources Needed (download above):

STARS Individual & Cultural Diversity Workbook
To Do:

A. In the STARS workbook please read the last  pages in the workbook. This information is on children with Dyslexia and ADD & AD/HD. These are some common problems in learning.
Many child-care centers/homes may have children that have learning disabilities. It is important to be aware of this type of diversity also.
Please understand that you cannot diagnose these learning disabilities, only an expert can do that. What you can do is report your concerns about a child's development or behavior to the parents. They would then have the child screened & tested by a professional. It is not a good idea to "label" any child, but only report your observations of the behavior that you have noticed.

B. After you have read these pages please spend at least an hour "surfing" through the websites listed under “Study links”.
