To make this class more meaningful it would be good idea to purchase a file box or notebook to store all your Literacy activities in. You will be much more likely to use and add to these lessons/activities if they are all in one place and organized.

 

ASSIGNMENT #1

Please read over the workbook for a basis of understanding. Think of two activities that you can do with children for Phonological Awareness and for Print Exposure. Now write out these four activities or lessons and submit as assignment #1.

ASSIGNMENT #3

So much of literacy is the child's environment. What can you do to develop a literacy rich environment for children? What changes can be made in your program? What items can be purchased? Please write a short summary on how you could change your facility to enhance literacy development.

ASSIGNMENT #4

For older children the process of phonemic awareness is very important. The skills they need for later decoding and phonics come from an understanding of sound to symbol awareness. This can be stressed by rhyming activities. Silly songs, sounds, and rhymes are wonderful ways to reinforce these skills. Take some time to visits the websites listed for you at the "Study Links" page.

 

Develop four rhyming activities, fingerplays, songs, or pattern stories, that help reinforce these skills. Please write out these four activities.
