To make this class more meaningful it would be good idea to purchase a file box or notebook to store all your Pre-Science activities in. You will be much more likely to use and add to these lessons/activities if they are all in one place and organized.

ASSIGNMENT #1
Read over the information in the STARS Science Workbook. Why do you think that the science area is one the favorites of most young children? There are seven main science skills that very young children can learn. Write out one activity that could be presented under each of the 7 skill areas:
Observing
Classifying
Measuring/Number use
Communication
Predicting
Defining the Operation (explain how things are done)

Keep in mind the seven skills listed above. Read over the science processes on page 7-8 in the workbook. Come up with one activity plan or lesson plan that teaches at least four of the science processes in the same activity/lesson.

To get the most out of this class, it would be a great idea to set up a notebook or file folder system for science activities. You will be starting to collect these lessons/activities now and can continue to build your files over future years.
Next please go to the "study Links" page. There are many websites bookmarked for you about science activities, lessons, and general information. Please spend at least an hour surfing through these websites. You can even do a Google search if you want to find more sites.

Read over the last few pages of the workbook. Listed for you are many simple science related activities that can be used in your classroom. For assignment #4 please write 10 science activities that you found on the web search, or came up with from readings. After you write these out store them in your science file or notebook for future use in the classroom.
